Good surroundings and expensive living do not necessarily go hand-in-hand. You can still enjoy the good view of your environment without spending much, while it can also be said that you can live expensively but not let your eyes enjoy the sights.
As far as Vilcabamba, Ecuador is concerned, it is more interested in getting the former's characteristic. The place has been, in fact, a haven for health-conscious people who do not have enough money to go somewhere pricey.
