Linda and I have lived in Cotacachi, Ecuador, for nearly a year and a half. One of the highlights of living here is the Otavalo Market, about 5 miles from Cotacachi. We have a friend visiting from the states and yesterday, Saturday, we decided that she needed have this experience. I guess it has been three months since we have been to the market, and I was amazed, because it seems to me the market has grown greatly in the past few months. The heart of the market is the Plaza de los Ponchos, a square block area that is full of booths housing everything from textiles, to clothing to painting, Panama hats, the list goes on and on. But the most amazing thing is that on Saturday the market extends outward on every street from the Plaza for 8 or 10 blocks or more in every direction. This means that besides the Plaza itself, there are at least 50 blocks of streets that are closed off to traffic while the marketers from all over northern Ecuador hawk their wares. Shopping in Otavalo is an art form. Options are always good in life as they give us multiple paths to follow depending on our wishes, circumstances and desires. But then the same multiple paths might pose a choice problem especially when all paths are equally unknown. No wonder when this gentleman had to retire, he had to ask on this forum whether Guatemala is better than Ecuador or vice-versa for a settled retired life!Link: Guatemala or Ecuador for Low Low Cost Semi-Retirement - BootsnAll Travel Network Tags: retirement • semi retirement • 0 Comments. - Permalink |

What do you do when there is a turbulence in your family? Well as far as it goes for me, I usually try to sort it out by inviting all parties to the table and try to talk it out. This equally applies to larger scale turbulences such as the economic turbulence going on in Latin America. No wonder 12 State heads held a meeting to sort things out in the region by mutual cooperation.Link: Foreign Policy Association: Latin America|Latin America Tags: foreign policy • 0 Comments. - Permalink |

It has been question that has been troubling the wise and the ignorant alike - since ages - regarding the existence of absence of God. I am not here to support either view for this is a neutral and un-biased review but there are strong skeptics such as Professor Dawkins.
