The Galápagos Islands are located 950 km. from Ecuador and are made up of 13 large, 6 small islands and a sprinkling of small "keys". Its connection to Charles Darwin and the theory of evolution is direct. This is where Charles saw evolution at work and it is still considered a natural laboratory to this day. There is a permanent population of approximately 30,000 persons most of whom make a living from the tourism the islands are famous for.
