Ecuador Galapagos Travels Interview

By Interviewer at 02/11/09 14:38

Name of your website?

Ecuador Galapagos Travels

Your name?

Diego Pesantez

Your Location (city, etc)

Quito, Pichincha, Ecuador

Please give us a short summary of your website?

The website from EGT offers detailed information on travels in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands including adventure tours into the Amazon jungle and in the Andes, but also Hotels in Ecuador and Galapagos and Spanish classes in Quito.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

We have been travelling a lot ourselves and allways found it hard to find the information we were looking for, so we wanted to make a website that does provide all important information in one site thus helping any traveller to plan his vacations.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

Ecuador Galapagos Travels is our first website which we launched about a year ago and still keep imrpoving it.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

The name says what the page is about: Ecuador Galapagos Travels. Making it easy to decide for somebody surfing in the web if this site is what he is looking for.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

It has a clear structure dealing only with travelling in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands with no other offers or advertisements. Often it is hard to find the information you are looking for, while on the EGT site you can see on the first look what the site is about.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

We will go on improving the site hopefully making it the best site gor travel information on Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

It does not balance yet but we hope this will get better in the future...

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

We would do the same thing we would do now, but of course faster and with more people.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Let me know how I can get the site really big really quickly and I will gladly deal with any demand coming up!

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None, we knew it would take time and thus were prepared for the costs.

What has been your biggest challenge?

To decide what NOT to include in the site as we want it to be as complete as possible but had to limit it somewhere.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

I guess the most succesful way of promoting our website have been the links we received from similar sites.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

So far we are doing quite as planned but we will have to improve traffic in order to keep up with our expectations.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

The site is up for little bit more then a year and we will keep it up as long as possible, hopefully for ever :-)

What is your next project for your site ?

We want to improve our maps for Ecuador and the Galapagos so these are more helpful to travellers for the trip planning.

What is your website address?
