Name of your website?

Gringo Down South

Your name?

Anthony the Gringo

Your Location (city, etc)

Guayaquil

Please give us a short summary of your website?

All about life in Ecuador, told from the point of view of a North American. North Americans, or Gringos as they are called in this site, often think that everybody south of the border eats tacos and comes from Mexico. I try to explain through funny stories and everyday experiences what it is like to live in the heart of the real Latino heartland.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I moved to Ecuador half a year ago to study and fell in love with the county. I will be here for another year...at least!

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I started my website with Blogger soon after I arrived and havnīt moved it since, though Iīm in the process of creating another, more comprehensive website.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Iīve always considered Gringo to be a comical word and have called myself one for years. It isnīt insulting or demeaning, itīs what I am, a Gringo!

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

The stories are very popular and funny, there is a personal perspective you canīt get from a travel website.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Just to let people know about Ecuador and keep my friends and family informed on what Iīm doing here.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Success is knowing I educated someone about a country they didnīt even know existed.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Not a thing.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

I guess I would spend a lot more time on the computer!

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None so far.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Updating. Sometimes I go a while before I update.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Good content!

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It hasnīt gotten as popular as quickly as I expected, it takes patience and work!

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

It has been going strong for half a year, and will keep going for at least another year!

What is your website address?

Gringo Down South
