Green Progress - Sustainable Rural Development & Reforestation in Ecuador Interview

By Interviewer at 09/15/07 12:19

Name of your website?

Green Progress - Sustainable Rural Development & Reforestation in Ecuador

Your name?

Sarah

Your Location (city, etc)

Between the mountains and the sea, in the warm, tropical foothills of the Andes

Please give us a short summary of your website?

It's about our development work in Ecuador. 'Progreso Verde' or 'Green Progress': social and economic development, but in an environmentally-friendly way.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Progreso Verde means Green Progress. We thought it explains what we do in a concise way. Our charity name is CRACYP, (which stands for Rural Reforestation & Progress Network Corporation, in Spanish), which takes a bit more time to understand, so we decided to make our domain name clearer and easier to spell.

What makes the charity different?

We take a very practical approach. If people can't afford to eat, they certainly can't afford to save the forest or plant trees. So we help them develop productive projects for a sustainable income, so they can afford to not cut the forest for timber. Also, with a tiny percentage of their extra income, they have to plant trees as the 'price' of our help.

What is your website address?
